5 things no Fringe performer should be without

The Edinburgh Fringe can be a funny old time for performers. It represents the culmination of a year's hard work writing and rehearsing a show. Artists will have invested a huge amount both financially and emotionally and the gruelling slog of bringing the show to the public, while exhilerating and hugely rewarding, can be a big challenge too.

Joz Norris, that jerk from the Chortle Award-nominated Weirdos Comedy Collective, is back with a new solo show about creative self-expression and desperation and families and raisins. There's a good bit where he wears a big red toilet seat on his head, unless he cuts it.

That paragraph above is what Joz wrote for the EdFringe brochure. He has no idea what most of it means either, but he knows it's how he feels. Truth is, he's desperate. His grandma says the family's sad they never see him, but it's "what he chose." All his flatmates are moving out. His friend moved to the other side of the world. He's wasted all his money on the homemade raisin business, and on an invisible dog lead. The kids he works with think he looks like a pig or a rat. His grip on his sanity is going, too. He's just trying to find answers to all his questions and tell people how he feels, that's all. It's hard, this.

Joz Norris

Norris is an award-winning actor, comic and writer. His solo character and stand-up comedy shows have all received acclaim, including being one of Time Out's Top 10 Free Shows of the Fringe in 2013, and he is also a key member of the Chortle Award-nominated Weirdos Collective.

He won Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy at LA WebFest 2015 and is a prolific actor in film and online for companies including Wild Seed Studios, Hoot Comedy, Yalli Productions, Turtle Canyon Comedy and Little Rock Pictures. With Little Rock, he co-wrote and starred in his own webseries with Ralf Little, which was an adaptation of his acclaimed 2014 Edinburgh show, Awkward Prophet. With Hoot he starred in and contributed additional material to a sketch pilot commissioned by Channel 4.
