Further details

Colin wakes up in the middle of the night after consuming large amounts of alcohol. He phones the doctor who persuades Colin that he is not having a heart attack but tells him to lay off the booze.

At work Colin reluctantly attends a leaving do as he is no longer drinking but is bored and sober. When he finds out that the person whose do it is couldn't make it he decides never to attend such a function again.

Des comes around and tempts Colin with booze but he resists. However biting hunger and craving for booze distracts Colin from his writing. He even has trouble finishing one sentence. When he does he has a minor celebration opening champagne as he realises his period of abstinence is now up.

Jen and Colin's plans for a slap up meal at home are spoilt when Stuart and Rosemary phone and remind them that they're supposed to be at their house tonight for dinner to Colin's consternation. The couple spend all night talking about their baby and not topping up Colin's glass who is desperate to get drunk.

The following morning [they stay over] Jen confronts Stuart and Rosemary and explains that they don't want to continue their friendship. Colin is horrified by this (although it was his idea) and pretends that Jen is just joking. He then goes on to plan the couple's next visit to them.
