Martin and Louisa have their first fertility consultation with Dr Emma Ryder. Well aware that Martin is able to perform the tests himself, she reminds him that he is the patient now, not the doctor.
Dr Edward Mullen returns to the surgery, this time not to assess Martin, but rather ask for advice on his own medical matter. Julia Pote is also back to see Martin for an allergy profile after her sudden allergic response and is concerned when Martin uncovers she has pernicious anaemia too.
A case of vandalism at a local surf school is reported and PC Joe Penhale is on the case. On arrival at the beach Penhale realises he went to school with Nathan Fowler, who runs the surf school with his heavily pregnant wife Mags. Penhale offers to help Nathan optimise his security, to prevent this from happening again. As a thank you, Nathan offers Penhale a surf lesson. Penhale doesn't think he's cut out to be a surf dude, but he agrees to give it a go, with disastrous results.
Meanwhile Louisa's having the phlebotomy room painted, to prepare for her first supervised counselling session.The painter, Paul, seems to have a personal hygiene problem, and is leaving a nasty odour around the place. The Doc diagnoses excessive sweating, and offers to treat him. Martin can't believe that Paul's girlfriend Ally hasn't noticed the odour until an examination reveals she has nasal polyps. After Martin removes them she can suddenly smell her boyfriend's problem. Louisa's first session doesn't end well when Professor Sam Bradman collapses during the session with sciatica.
The new owner of the Crab and Lobster, Caitlin Morgan, decides that Al should work at her convenience store. Ever the entrepreneur, Al sets up a street food stall using the store's produce which is past its best. Bert is feeling the pressure from Caitlin, and urges Al to come back to the pub. But Al is enjoying his booming new business venture until Caitlin finds out what he has been doing behind her back.
Morwenna's First Aid Responder beeper goes off and with the Doc away she leaps into action, pedalling her bike to the beach as fast as she can. Mags Fowler has gone into labour and her husband Nathan has had an accident while surfing. Morwenna takes charge of the medical emergency until the doc arrives to deliver the baby.
