The Graham Norton Show - Series 23, Episode 8 - Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Jeff Goldblum, Thandie Newton, Jake Shears - British Comedy Guide (original) (raw)
Chris Pratt, talking about his new movie Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, in which he stars with Bryce Dallas Howard and Jeff Goldblum, reveals: "People come to expect something special from a Jurassic movie so we have expanded the story off the island."
Talking about an underwater sequence he did with Bryce, he says, "We were nine days in the water and there was a lot of chlorine - there were a lot of people in there! And whilst you weren't supposed to pee in the pool nobody actually got out!"
Bryce interjects, 'There was a certain amount of freedom being in the water!" Talking to Chris, she says, "You've been telling that story for seven months now and I am so very ashamed - I did try to remain dehydrated!"
Asked about his approach to parenting, Chris says, "My dad had a rule that the only place you could swear was when you were fishing, so I have carried that on. I was out on the late with my son and he caught a fish. The fish flopped about and its fin poked my son, who ends up crying. I tell him it is okay to swear so he says, 'Dad, I am about to swear. That bass is stupid.' I encourage him so he says. 'Stupid, stupid bass.' When I say, 'Okay, get it all out,' he says, "Stupid bass, you f**king pussy!' It was a little hard not to laugh at that!"
Bryce reveals that doing stunts in the jungle lead to an embarrassing 'Swamp Crotch'. "It was so hot in the jungle that my trousers showed all the sweat so I used a hair dryer to get rid of the stain - it became so normal I would do it all the time and in front of anyone."
Revealing she is often mistaken for Jessica Chastain, Bryce says, "It's very flattering for me! It's odd because it all started long before we were famous. I went to NYU and she was at Julliard and there were many times - in the likes of Starbucks and other places - that people were certain we were one and the same person. It was a little unnerving, but we could be sisters."
Jeff, asked what it is like coming back and being part of the new Jurassic film, says, "It is entirely delicious. It's great. I was involved a while ago but not with superstars like these guys. I had a great time coming back."
Talking about the number of people that appear to resemble him, he says, "They come up to me and say, 'My whole life I've been told I look exactly like you. It's a bit weird and it's a very wide range of people but I try to be diplomatic and always say the same thing, 'Well that's flattering to me!" Jeff meets a member of audience that bears an uncanny resemblance to him.
Thandie Newton, asked who she resembles, says, "It's Zoe Saldana. Recently I was in SoulCycle in LA and Victoria Beckham who I have actually met a few times was there. We were chatting away when she said, 'It's so great that you are here when you are pregnant.' I said, 'I actually had my baby a couple of months ago.' We carried on chatting and it was obvious she thought I was someone else so I said, 'Do you think I am Zoe Saldana?' Victoria was absolutely mortified! It was actually okay as Zoe is a rare beauty, but really? up close? Come on! And, I am British!"
Asked about performing in Line Of Duty, she says "I had the best time, but I am sorry people think my character was a bitch. I actually felt very sorry for her."
Talking about Westworld and appearing nude, she says, "The idea of being naked for 75% of the time on paper sounds like a nightmare, but I was all in and couldn't wait!"
Talking about her 12-year-old daughter following in her thespian footsteps, and asked if she is worried about her getting into the industry, Thandie says, "No, 'cos she's got me! I think it is wonderful and I am so excited for her."
Jake Shears performs Creep City live in the studio before joining Graham for a chat about being a solo artist. Asked about his new single and upcoming album, he says, "I have been working on it for two years. It's so exciting and so good! It has been a joy performing again. I have missed it."
