Hartnell left The Army Game after Series 1, when he was cast as a similar character in Carry On Sergeant, which would become the first of the long-running film series. He returned in Series 4.
153 regular episodes of The Army Game were originally broadcast, alongside a short special. Two further episodes were recorded - believed to be alongside Series 3 - but do not appear to have aired until 'repeat' runs on satellite television in the 1990s.
