Based on the characters and settings created by Barbara Euphan Todd, Jon Pertwee stars as scarecrow Worzel Hedgerow Gummidge in this Sunday tea-time family-friendly sitcom series.

Worzel Gummidge, the scarecrow of Scatterbrook Farm's Ten Acre Field, has a suspicious habit of wandering from his post - for when no one is watching, he comes alive! First spotted by children Sue and John, new to the area, once in his humanesque form Worzel gets into an unending array of bother, often due to his daftness. After all, he does have a mangelwurzel for a head!

The badly-behaved Worzel soon makes friends with Sue and John, but is no less prone to getting himself into trouble. Cowardly, easily confused, often selfish, and hopelessly in love with an antique fairground attraction Aunt Sally who despises him, Ten Acre Field is just about the last place one would look to find this scarecrow!
