Hannah Berner opens up about her Summer House firing in 2021
Hannah Berner discussed her departure from Summer House during a recent podcast appearance. Speaking on the June 8 episode of Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert, Berner explained how the entire event of her departure unfolded.
“It was a matter of, ‘You need everyone to be friends,'” Berner said about the attitude they had in Summer House. “Not everyone was getting along. It was a choice.”
At the time, Berner was at loggerheads with Summer House O.G. Kyle Cooke, which also affected her other friendships at the house. “I was gonna be the one kiboshed,” Hannah continued, “I just say, getting fired [equals] star power. It’s a thin line between love and hate. Getting fired, they were like, ‘You’re too much for reality TV.’ I was like, ‘Iconic.'”
Despite all the drama, Hannah claimed that she learned a lot from her stint at Summer House.
“I get a call, ‘You’re fired from Summer House, you’re fired from Chat Room,’ and I remember thinking, ‘Now I need to get a Netflix special,'” she recounted about her firing. “I got such a chip on my shoulder. ‘Cause you have to be crazy to stand up every night. You have to have some kind of addict mentality. And I remember thinking, ‘I love when people put me down or cut me out, or I feel like no one wants me here.’ And to come back stronger. I just love that. I love the rising of the phoenix.”
Five years on, Hannah is now cohost of her own podcast and recently premiered her second stand-up special, None of My Business, on Hulu.
