Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D. B. Weiss’ sci-fi series has received an exciting update for its Season 3. Notably, they developed Netflix’s 3 Body Problem, an adaptation of Liu Cixin’s Remembrance of Earth’s Past trilogy, with Alexander Woo. Season 1 of the show debuted on March 21, 2024, and received a mostly positive response from critics and the general audience.

3 Body Problem Season 3 update means it could release sooner than Season 2

The third installment of David Benioff and D. B. Weiss’ Netflix series has begun production.

According to What’s on Netflix, filming is currently taking place on Camber Sands beach in East Sussex, England, with cast members Marlo Kelly, who plays Tatiana Haas, and Jess Hong, who portrays Dr. Jin Cheng. The outlet further reports that the production’s presence in the UK is an exception.

While the inaugural season of the show was entirely a British production, it relocated to Hungary for Seasons 2 and 3, which were to be developed back-to-back. Moreover, the sophomore season wrapped production back in January.

3 Body Problem is Benioff and Weiss’ first major TV project as creators since Game of Thrones. At the time of this article’s composition, the show has a 79% critic rating and a 76% audience score on the review-aggregating site Rotten Tomatoes.

Lili Loofbourow of The Washington Post wrote in her review, “The series juggles the perspectives and quandaries of its flawed and confused scientists with sympathy and nuance. The dialogue is intelligent, witty, and believable.”

About two months after the series premiere, Netflix renewed 3 Body Problem for the second and third seasons. Notably, Benioff, Weiss, and Woo have mapped out adaptation plans for the entire trilogy of books, which, according to them, will take about three to four seasons in total (via Collider).

3 Body Problem Season 2 debuts sometime in 2026. While it’s unclear when Season 3 will come out, given that it is already in production, it could come out sooner than expected.
