5 yo Daughter loves it

This is a cute cartoon, with funny characters. It's similar in style to the way cartoons were made in the 90s. But better yet, my daughter actually learned a lot about ancient Egypt, the gods they worshiped and the political system. We read books about Egypt while watching and it was perfect reinforcement without feeling like "learning".

My daughter really loves this cartoon. She watched this show when she was eight years old. When she started 6th grade, they were learning about ancient Egypt. My daughter gained a better understanding about the Gods and Egyptian beliefs. She's also an artist, they were assigned as a homework to draw Egyptian Gods and explain what their roles are. I realized right away that she took most of the designs from the Tutenstein cartoon. Cleo - a teenage girl and her cat Luxor awakes the mummy Tut, and they become friends and start going on adventures together. Tut is a 10 year old kid and is a very stubborn pharaoh, Cleo most of the time will try to stop him from doing things that will get him into trouble, but later through the series he realizes his mistakes and puts everything back to normal. The character learns his lesson at the end of each episode. However, I think it would be more appropriate to let them watch this cartoon when they are at least eight or nine years old. There are some character designs that could scare them, like Seth God of destruction or demons from the underworld. And there was one episode where Tut turns the girl and the cat into skeletons, and it was pretty disturbing. Make sure your child feels comfortable watching this show and doesn't feel freaked out by it.

What's the Story?

In TUTENSTEIN, the mummy of a 10-year-old pharaoh is brought to life by a lightening bolt and takes up residence in a museum, still believing that he's the ruler of the world. Accompanied by Cleo, a girl he meets at the museum, and her cat, Luxor (who acquires the power of speech after the lightning strike), Tutenstein attempts to recover the position and power that he held in ancient Egypt. In the process, he encounters spirits from the Egyptian underworld and must rescue his friends from various mishaps with the power of his magic scepter.

The character of Tut is amusing, with his combination of childishness and egotism, and his interaction with Cleo and Luxor can be quite funny. The resolutions of the stories are fairly predictable -- Tut uses his powers for good to help his friends, and harmony is restored -- but the situation is unusual enough to keep the show fresh.
