Strengthening European Security: The Copernicus Security Service (original) (raw)
The Copernicus Security Service is an integral part of the Copernicus Programme, dedicated to supporting European Union policies by providing valuable information to address security challenges. With a focus on crisis prevention, preparedness, and response capacities, the service operates in key areas such as EU External and Security Actions, maritime surveillance, and border surveillance. In collaboration with partners like the European Union Satellite Centre, the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA), and FRONTEX, the service contributes to enhancing situational awareness and supporting EU activities outside Europe. The Service in Support to EU External and Security Actions (SESA), operated by the European Union Satellite Centre (SatCen), offers rapid and on-demand geospatial information to monitor events and activities that may impact European and global security. By leveraging space-based data, the service improves crisis management capabilities and aids in conflict prevention, peacekeeping operations, and risk assessment for trans-regional threats. The Copernicus Security Service reinforces Europe's commitment to promoting stability, human rights, democracy, and fundamental freedoms, while mitigating risks and supporting security-related initiatives.
