ITV Emmerdale fans deeply 'uncomfortable' after 'harrowing' Dr Todd scene leaves them in tears (original) (raw)
Emmerdale fans are all saying the same thing about the horrifying episode that aired on Sunday
Emmerdale viewers are all expressing the same sentiment following a "harrowing" scene involving Dr Todd that aired over the weekend. Fans of the ITV soap will know that Dr Caitlin Todd, played by Caroline Harker, has been blackmailing Charity Dingle for several weeks regarding the real parentage of Leyla Sugden.
The villainous doctor has been demanding £100,000 from the Woolpack co-owner, leaving Charity, played by Emma Atkins, feeling increasingly desperate. Having only managed to hand over £30,000 earlier in the week, Dr Todd warned that she would reveal Charity's secret at Sarah Sugden's (Katie Hill) 21st birthday celebration if the remaining sum wasn't paid.
The storyline took an even darker turn during last night's episode on Sunday June 7, which can now be watched on ITVX. Charity got drunk at home and accepted that she would need to tell Sarah and Jacob, played by Joe-Warren Plant, the truth to escape Dr Todd's clutches.
Charity told Dr Todd at Jacobs Fold: "What are you waiting for, then? Crack on, because do you know what? I have not got a bean left to give. Not a sausage. Not a single solitary penny left because you've bled me dry.
"I have begged, and I have borrowed, and I have stolen. Yeah, stolen from the people I love, because unlike you, I have people who love me, yeah? Who I also love back."
Charity tried to pull Todd to the Woolpack to reveal her secret to Sarah together, but the doctor swiftly intervened, unwilling to have her malicious behaviour exposed to the village.
Later, Todd made an advance towards an intoxicated Charity, who quickly pulled away. Charity then collapsed onto the sofa and fell asleep.
Todd looked as if she was about to leave the cottage, but instead locked the door and proceeded to sexually assault Charity in harrowing scenes. The ITV legend soon awoke in horror, asking: "What are you doing?"
Shortly after, Todd left, leaving Charity visibly shaken on the sofa, before the credits began to roll.
ITV viewers flocked to X to share their distress following the episode, with one person writing: "Tonight's episode has left me feeling sick to my stomach."
Another said: "That scene with Doctor Todd doing that to Charity then Charity realising what was happening at the end was pretty chilling. Certainly one of the most evil doctors in soapland!"
A third observed: "Absolutely harrowing especially after what Charity went through with [Mark] Bails in 2019. Caroline Harker & Emma Atkins were spectacular in tonight's episode though."
Another fan agreed: "Tonight's episode was deeply uncomfortable... Charity and Dr Todd were difficult to watch."
A fifth viewer echoed the sentiment, saying: "That scene at the end between Charity & Dr Todd was a very tough watch. Emma Atkins & Caroline Harker are fantastic."
Emma Atkins, who portrays Charity, has previously said: "This has been one of the most demanding and significant story lines I've had to navigate as Charity.
"We know her as a tough, resilient character, but this trauma will expose a deep, raw vulnerability that has been heartbreaking to play at times.
"I hope this story line gives even one person the courage to speak out or helps others understand the quiet devastation of trauma."
