The Duality of the Internet by 200379332 on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

Disney’s Wish has inadvertently exposed the utter hypocrisy of Internet movie discourse. People were willing to defend The Super Mario Bros. Movie (rightfully so, in my opinion) against accusations by its critics who, for some reason, seemed to expect a Mario movie to be on the same level as Spirited Away. But when Wish came out, these people suddenly agreed with the critics – proudly displaying the RT score on the thumbnails of their YouTube videos despite disagreeing with them – even though Wish received criticisms similar to those of The Super Mario Bros. Movie and also had a “rotten” score on RT. These people suddenly act as if this gorgeous, lovely tribute to 100 years of Disney animation (and it’s simply just meant to be a tribute!) has a nonexistent obligation to be “deep” and “complex”, lacking self-awareness about how they sounded just like the critics who attacked the Mario movie. I’m done with these smug, entitled grifters – and the critics who misjudged both films.

Both films are enjoyable, but Wish is superior – yes, I said it!

(Another unpopular opinion: Raya and the Last Dragon is better than Encanto, even though I loved both films.)

In all seriousness, please be civil in the comment section. This is not a place to debate about these movies or be a rude troll.
