All the Chief wanted was for someone to scratch it, ya know? It seems it's yet another of Jeremy's myriad fields of expertise, and Max is not exactly happy about that. Seeing as that little fellow who has to carry the Chief's seat around is used to the grueling details of his job - even being leaned on - what he's looking so concerned about is probably that fuming fiend over there... Personally, I think jealous Max is best Max!

Not sure what part of this drawing I had the most fun with - I've had the concept of Jeremy scratching the Chief's belly in reference to his opening line for some time now, but the addition of Max and... um... Little Fellow to the left, was decided upon just before I started drawing it. I kind of lean towards Max in this instance, actually; subverting his demeanour when juxtaposed against the Chief's was a blast, and with hands having always been a struggle for me, I like to think that when it comes to drawing Blue Meanie hands in a fist, I'm rather good. Plus, I love how from certain angles, when Max or the Chief is standing upright, it looks like their thighs are spilling out from their boots. Kinda makes one wonder if their legs are naturally shaped the way their boots make them look, or if those boots in fact have a corset-like effect on them.
