The Abyss Club Tomorrow Never Drowns Part 4 by Abysspool on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

Leah and Connie both felt slightly relieved when they finally reached the top of the vent, even though they had a way to go before they reached the surface, they were at least close to escaping the crumbling ship. Being in front Leah stuck her head into the opening and peered out of it, sure enough they were now on the deck of the ship. It was tight, but Leah managed to squeeze herself through the vent’s opening. Connie followed quickly behind her, but her waist got caught in the rim of the vent. She grabbed the side of the vent and tried to pull herself out as hard as she could, but she didn’t move an inch. Leah swam to Connie and tried to pull her out by her arm, but she remained trapped in the vent.

Connie’s chest was in tremendous pain, the C02 in her lungs making her feel like they were on fire. She started to convulse, coughing off big clouds of air bubbles in an attempt to relieve the pressure. Connie claps her hand over her mouth to keep the air in her body, but she knew she couldn’t keep this up forever. Knowing that Leah was probably in the same pain she was in, Connie tried to wave her away so that at least one of them might make it to the surface. But Leah ignored her gestures, she was not about to leave her girlfriend to drown alone.

Instead, Leah decided to try a different approach. Noticing the amount of rust around the base of the vent, she swam around to the back and using all her strength pushed against the vent. Sure enough the base of the vent began to crack and splinter, causing the vent to tilt. After a few more shoves the entire vent collapsed onto the deck of the ship. The fall caused the vent to crack down the side, widening the vent so that Connie could slip through. However the now jagged metal vent was sharp enough to cut Connie’s leg, causing her to gasp in pain as blood leaked from her wound.

As Connie covered her leg wound with her hands to stop the bleeding, Leah swam to her side, put her lips to her and blew whatever air she could to Connie’s lungs. Leah knew she couldn’t give Connie much, but she hoped it would be enough air to relieve some of her pain so that she could reach the surface. When Leah gave as much air as she could she took Connie’s arm, placed it over her shoulder and together they began to swim to the surface. With Connie’s leg badly injured, she could only swim with one leg which slowed their accent. That coupled with the fact that Leah’s own lungs on the verge of collapse, meant that their chances of making it to the surface weren’t great. But they had to try.
