Phallic City 2082: A Concept Is Born #12 by AdonisIOArt on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

Disclaimer: AI Art

Though I don’t feel quite ready to make the judgment on whether or not AI imagery is art, I can say with confidence that I use artistic processes to generate my images. Let me explain.

In traditional painting/art, it’s suggested that you have a play phase and a critique phase. With AI imagery, I play A LOT. Essentially, the tools I use are a sketchbook of concepts that I could go back to and develop. Sometimes, you see these concepts right away because they stick (Cuban GoGo boys and The Suit Smugglers are good examples), but there are (no joke) hundreds of others that you’ve yet to see from me that are waiting to be fully realized here on DA.

During this phase, you’re supposed to just let whatever happens happens and turn off the critical part of your mind. This is different than asking, “What if…?” though. I ask “What if…?” a lot when making imagery. This is very much an artistic process and workflow. Some ideas during this stage feel one note and end for different reasons, whereas others release a tidal wave of creativity.

Well, Phallic City 2082 was a tidal wave. In this series today, you’ll be seeing JUST the concept art. This doesn’t really include any final character concepts (with the exception of the hunky bartenders.) For AI imagery, I play with locations, colors (my absolute favorite), materials (so important!), poses (lots of butts here), camera angles (my current love is side view if you can’t tell), and just the overall vibe the character is giving off. Fun fact: this series started off as a remix of a 1920s Shanghai speakeasy series I was working on. What started with a solitary bartender (with a GLORIOUS butt) turned into a whole world to explore.

When I start posting the other characters in the city, if you’re interested in developing your artistic process, look at the pieces of what remained from this phase and what changed. It’s important to have balance between consistency and uniqueness. I’m so proud of what you’re about to see, even in this concept stage. What started out as play time has now ended in a whole RPG world that I want to explore. Hope you enjoy the journey into Phallic City 2082!
