Halo Prototype Crossover by Alakdilion on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

This was made as a submission for the :iconhalo-lovers-club: crossover competition. Before I begin with its description, I'd like to dedicate this piece to the following:

Dark
[A27]Ed
[A27]Topgun
[A27]Soulfire

They have given me helpful feedback and constructive criticism. I love these guys for having the heart to tell me that something I made sucks. It is because of them that this piece isn't as awful as it could have been :)

Now, :iconanciente: explained to me that digital photo-manipulation was allowed in the contest and that it wasn't limited to traditional artwork. I don't have a scanner on hand and my Wacom tablet stopped working, so I was glad to hear that I'm still eligible. I picked the Prototype render since it sat on my harddrive for years without being used. Those who are familiar with my work will recognize the red Spartan being recycled for this piece. Going off of the Alex Mercer design, I chose to create a chaos-survival theme. I rendered images of the Flood from toys and in-game screenshots since they flowed with Alex Mercer's appearance. Debris in the image came from a variety of images found on Google that I cropped and rendered. The explosive debris in the air are actually chopped and screwed C4D that I had on file. UNSC ships were taken from a starship scale picture found on Google. I made the moon myself. As for effects, I implemented two color balance filters, a photo filter, a brightness/contrast filter, a gradient layer, and a hue/saturation layer. Alex Mercer had a satin layer to darken him. The red Spartan was burned in many places due to his original image being too bright and cartoony for the image. Everything behind these two characters has been Gaussian blurred. Fire sparks and the stars were used by brushes given to me by :iconion-square: back in 2005.

For those who are curious, there are two flood combat types, two flood infection types, and one flood tank form. See if you can find them all.

Halo belongs to Bungie and Microsoft. Prototype belongs to Radical Entertainment and Activision.

***UPDATE***

I also made a magazine cover variant which can be found here: [link]
