The mistress of love: process by Alumx on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

It's a very technically impressive piece. Well done for the time, effort and skill involved.

To be honest though I enjoy the steps better than the end result because the full painting seems overworked imo. Though this was an endeavour for you, and I respect you for pushing your limits.

I enjoyed the tonal underpainting/ sketch (step 2) because it had enough complexity, yet conveyed so much with the gestural mark making. Step 4 has such an impact with the luminosity of the light sources and contrast, but I like step 5 the most because it contains everything that step 4 has, yet it really champions the colour purple. It's such a rich, sensual and aristocratic colour that matches the mood and the subject, in all its nuances.

Even step 1 is beautiful with the collage/ assemblage aesthetic by way of technique and materials. It also simplifies and abstracts the composition into those marker lines, reminding me o Picasso's "deconstruction of a bull" drawings.
