The entire piece[pun not intended] completely speaks for itself.
The blurred-out greens in the background[likely to be from a strong camera lens] compliment the deeper blues and greens until you see the striking red color, breaking the subtlety in the picture, yet looking right at home with some interestingly shaped strawberries.

The cake, even though probably not done on purpose, at first looks a little messy, but it has a silly by-two stack leading up to the top. The white frosting balances the simple plate, and if it were a different color, it would probably overthrow the entire thing.
Overall, I think that this was done wonderfully, though I wish it looked a bit neater.
