This is Feanor from the Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien. He's one of the bigger characters, because he's the maker of the Silmarils that leads to a lot of the action in the book.

I did this with pencils several years ago when I graduated from eighth grade as an end of the year project. I learned a LOT from this particular picture... First of all, technical stuff (I know the proportions and the face are as usual very grotesque) and the need for clothing references.... and reference pictures in general. But I learned a lot about the spiritual aspect to drawing, as I just sat and drew this for hours at a time listening to music alone in my room. God is very much involved in the artistic process, and this drawing was a very mystical experience.

Anyway, please be patient, I'm starting with the older stuff first and then moving my way to some of the newer stuff.
