Operation Rising Star - Tusk by ArtistVortex on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

Tusk's origin story is shrouded in mystery. Born somewhere in the Baird Mountains within the Noatak National Preserve, Tusk's true identity remains unknown. He possesses a unique ability to shape-shift into any natural animal, embodying their strengths and abilities. Standing at a height of 5'10" with a sturdy build, Tusk's appearance in his preferred form is that of a dark and swarthy American-Eskimo.

Having grown up in the untamed wilderness, Tusk developed exceptional skills in climbing, shadowing, and stealth. His lack of formal education before arriving at Rising Star in Arizona, where he obtained his GED, posed initial challenges for him despite his inherent intelligence.

Tusk's mutant powers are awe-inspiring. He can assume the form of any natural creature, acquiring their defenses, attacks, and even the ability to fly or swim swiftly. Additionally, he exhibits a resistance to extreme temperatures, although he is particularly vulnerable to intense heat and fire. Tusk possesses the unique ability to communicate with and command animals, demonstrating a deep bond with the animal kingdom. He also has enhanced senses tailored to each specific animal form he assumes and possesses an extraordinary sense of smell in all his forms.

Deeply committed to the protection of both domestic animals and wildlife, Tusk's unwavering dedication often borders on the extreme. He places his trust in animals over humans, often preferring their company. Witnessing animals being attacked or endangered by humans triggers an unreasonable and violent response in him. Tusk has been known to go to great lengths to prevent harm to animals, even if it means confronting humans directly, resulting in occasional altercations (as evidenced by his criminal record).

In 1960, Tusk encountered an exploratory oil drilling company on the north shore of Alaska. Deeply disturbed by the intrusion upon nature, he organized the local Eskimo community against the oil company. While most conflicts were resolved peacefully, one confrontation escalated into violence, resulting in the tragic death of a young woman. Tusk was apprehended by the Alaska State Police and faced charges of Assault and Battery, Inciting a Riot, and being a Public Nuisance.

Fortunately for Tusk, his situation took an unexpected turn. The infamous Scorpius, a man with his own motives, attacked the jail where Tusk was held. Fiercely protective of the police officers, Tusk engaged Scorpius in battle. Their clash provided an opportunity for Tusk's charges to be dropped. Instead, he was handed over to an anthropological study group in Fairbanks for a year before being sent to Rising Star for further study and training.

Tusk's journey from the wilds of Alaska to the Rising Star facility offers a glimpse into his complex character. Driven by an unyielding desire to safeguard animals from the harmful actions of humanity, Tusk embodies a gentle and friendly demeanor toward most creatures. While he strives for non-lethal resolutions whenever possible, he exhibits little remorse when forced to use lethal force in defense.

As Tusk's story unfolds, the line between his human and animal nature blurs, revealing the depths of his connection with the natural world and the lengths he will go to protect it.
