Dustrn asks about Thomas's origin and how he became Sodor's number one engine. Thomas tells Dustrn that Thomas was a prototpye E2 tank engine. He told Dustrn that he was a smaller E2 tank engine because the people at the works couldn't afford to make Thomas longer, so they made him a smaller version of his kind. When he woke up for the first time, he met his builder, Lawson Billinton. He also told him that his coal bunker and back were removed and were replaced with a flat running board in order for the driver and fireman to have space to work in Thomas. Dustrn was also amazed that Thomas was the only E2 tank engine, along side his brothers Husky, numbered 106, and Wolf, numbered 109, the E2 tank engine didn't work very well, but they were hard workers. Thomas was soon purchased by Sir Bertram Topham Hatt, who was also known as The Fat Director. When he was assigned to work with Edward the Blue Engine, he and Edward got on very well, along with Henry the Green Engine, Alfred the B12, Alice the Atlantic Express Engine, Lily the LSWR O2 Tank Engine, Collin the Peckett class W4 1687 and Sarah the Helpful Red Engine. He also explained how he alongside, Wolf and Husky are the last E2 tank engines still in service to this day.
