Description

Reconstruction of the stem hummingbird, Eurotrochilus inexpectatus, of Early Oligocene Germany. The genus represents a stage of hummingbird evolution where features such as the long bill, and powered, hovering flight evolved, but before hummingbirds split into the lineages of hummingbirds proper, and of hermits.
