LiteratureGloryFrom my window I saw the setting sun, Girded in a rack of clouds: Dim, graying lilacs and dusky rose fading into misty blues In which a vent was torn, Through which a single, blazing eye, Though half-lidded by this veil of drapery, Stared out unblinking, Throwing up a wreath of burning embers above–– A rainbowed halo set aflame. What colors did I see therein! No crown of kings holds such splendor. And how dare we, in our hastiness, Locked in passing cars, Ever in pursuit of our own ends, Miss the wonders of the heavens? O radiant fire! No painter’s brush could sketch thee half so well.
