Introducing Amy by BeautifulDiffusion on DeviantArt (original) (raw)
Introducing Amy - a 22 year-old dressmaker from Nottingham, England, who specialised in lace creations and makes her modelling debut in the Lovely in Lace gallery today. Even I know from my history lessons at school that during the Industrial Revolution Nottingham became a world centre for production of quality lace, but Amy knows a lot more!
"Nottingham grew in importance for Lace production during the 18th and 19th centuries", Amy informs me, "with the production gradually being mechanised as the Industrial Revolution progressed. At one point in the 19th century the industry employed 25,000 people in Nottingham, and at the time the city's population was only about 200,000. Today, there is just one factory in the city, and indeed the whole country, producing quality lace".
Amy continues, "That factory produces the very highest quality of lace", she tells me, "and their production is almost entirely taken by famous fashion houses, such as Dolce & Gabbana or Christian Dior. I am lucky that I have some family ties with the Mason family, who have run the factory since the 1730s, so I can get the modest amount of their lace that it takes to make some of my bespoke creations".
Amy spends the early part of the session modelling some of her creations. "If I wear the shawl like this", she says as she raises it high on her head, "it looks like I am wearing a veil, although I suspect that I would be hard pressed to find a Church that would let me wear this at a wedding ceremony".
I have to agree with the sentiment, and this feeling is reinforced as she slowly disrobes during the session.
Witness Amy both in and out her creations as you enjoy this latest addition to the Lovely in Lace gallery.
