Kawakami’s Temperance is about balance, patience & moderation. Here we see her balancing her teacher life & her maid life/chores. I wanted to make wings to tie with Ohya but it looked too busy. By the way, the towel going from the laundry basket to the books also shows the connection between both jobs. After all, it’s due to her teaching that she needs to maid job in the first place. She is on 1 leg, making her balancing act a bit difficult, but she’s hopeful & looking to the future. The snapped elastic is only to show the tension her maid life has on her as is more of a character detail, rather than a tarot symbol.
