Vampire Kisses is a really fun series to read. The way Ellen Schreiber writes keeps your nose in each book until the very end.
It is pretty stereotypical and Schreiber emphasizes high school/teenage cliques a little too much.
It's extremely clique. All the vampires are goth/alternative. There hasn't been one normal/preppy/etc. vampire yet.
It's really high school based. I still enjoy it as a college freshman, but I don't relate to it as well as I did when a freshman in high school. I'm much more critical about than I was, picking out things I would've done differently if I was the author.
So, I'd say it is definitely more for younger teenagers, maybe ages 13-16.
Raven, the protagonist, is also a little more immature than I'd like. She can be selfish, extremely impatient, a bit annoying with her cheesy goth references, and sometimes I feel she can even be disrespectful.
I love the goth/alternative style, but she takes it to a level that it gets cheesy. Bat balloons? Really?
I also don't like how love-dependant she is, even though she is portrayed as a unique, independent person.
She is a well developed, round character. I just don't like her.
But, I enjoy reading them and I look forward to the next one. I will always be a fan of them! I just finished the new one a few days ago.
