Cassandra the Witch by Cattype on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

These are a few recent sketches of a character I created way back when I was 12. In terms of personality, she's kind of 180-ed since then. In terms of appearance, she's kind of 360-ed. I've tried to experiment with her design a bit so it's more than just a grey mini skirt. This is basically a sketch dump of a few variations of her with some color splashed on in Photoshop. I also wanted to experiment with a limited color pallet and contrast.

Cassandra (Cas for short) is a teenaged witch living in the Witching Realm (an alternate dimension where magic and monsters are real) but as part of her witch training has to learn to blend into the Mortal Realm (our realm) without revealing her witch powers. This is incredibly frustrating for her because she can't stand to be anyone but herself. She also loves to show off what she's good at and what she's good at most is magic.

Spirited and adventerous, but also quicker to act than to think which often gets her into trouble. Her non-magical hobbies include watching and reading about cheesey horror and scifi movies.

She has a motal friend that she's secretly revealed herself to and sometimes sneaks into the Witching Relm that's also into horror movies but I haven't made much progress in designing her. :/

...And to be honest, there's a chance I might not even use the Witching Relm idea. It might be better for me to focus on short, simpler stories since I've never been too good at coming up with stories that have a beginning, middle, and end. And something I've learned that I wish I knew when I was in high school is that simple characters based on instantly recognizable archetypes- such as a witch- are really handy for story telling. Maybe I'll get more into that when I finally post the assignment for my storyboard class involving Cas and her sister Melanie. (Who you might remember from this post)
