Description

At the Gilmore Museum Continued-

1949 Chevrolet Pickup Truck.

This one is a three window; you only count the side windows and the back to get three. We had a five window 1950 when I was a kid. All of these trucks were straight six cylinder engines. The V-8 didn’t see production until 1955. All of these trucks were three speeds (to the best of my knowledge) because the four speed transmission didn’t see production until 1957. I don’t know of any automatics from the factory. Seat belts were nonexistent until about 1956 (to the best of my memory). There are no turn signals until around 1953. The gas tank is right behind the seat- inside. The rectangle in front of the door and behind the emblem- is the fresh air vent which opens in order to get rid of some of the gas fumes. Lol If you see one with a split windshield- it’s a 1953 or older. However, I have seen a lot of them with a one-piece windshield upgrade.

It doesn’t get any more basic than this- I love these things. They are built like an Army tank. If I ever restore another vehicle, it will probably be a five-window 1953 or older. Our 1950 was the first four-wheeled vehicle that I had ever driven by myself at about the age of seven.
