You see, Michael Keaton had been in two very successful films, and Joel Schumacher wanted Keaton to come back and do a third one, but Keaton left the role for two reasons: One was due to a salary dispute at the time, and the other was creative differences. So, Val Kilmer was cast to replace Keaton.
