Description

I've been playing around with depth maps and using Photoshop's built-in rudimentary 3D stuff to build random cityscapes and environments. It's really interesting, although it shines a light on how underpowered my machine is for the task lol (2017 iMac). Still it gets the basics down and then I can go over real quick with another layer of normal paint and build up from there. About 10min. was spent fiddling with the 3D stuff, I just made a basic map and duplicated it a few times (I love duplicating things) and then did a fast render of that and started painting over it. I knew that the theme was 'smog' so I could just do normals and overlay and obscure chunks of it, hiding some of the warts and letting other shine through; was inspired a little from FF7/FF7R Midgar so I have this low opacity (15%) layer of linear dodge where I smudged in a green-ish color to give some of that illuminated lower city fog kind of look.
