Lana Ref by Commander-Katelyn on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

okay so I think Germany rotted my brain cuz this is a thing now

I realised this past month that I love Lana so much but her story was sooo unbelievably uninteresting to me, or at least, regarding her character's place in the story. I've mentioned before that Lana started in like 2017 as a Gorillaz OC but I was too embarrassed to admit it LOL but I got attached to her and wanted to keep drawing her so I pretended she wasn't and eventually she became entirely separate, but to be honest life is short and i've been getting into Gorillaz twitter and everybody has sooo many cool OCs... so I reworked Lana and she's back to her roots. I may be cringe... but I am finally free. She also 100% only existed because I wanted someone who could bully Murdoc cuz holding a magnifying glass up to him and burning him alive like a little ant is my faovurite thing to do, so that's part of it too. she couldn't fix him but she could fuck him... maybe that will calm him down... (it won't)

This is just a general ref to get her vibe for each phase for Art Fight. Phase 1 and 5 are probably my favourite. Phases 2 and 3 need major work imo, they're BORING!

Another part of it is that my irl bitch wife bought me the Celebrity Takedown and Slowboat to Hades DVDs last christmas and we've gone through them a couple times recently. None of it is stuff I haven't seen before but idk, it got me feeling some type of way, getting to experience it as close as possible to the original. I obviously didn't grow up with that version of Gorillaz (the original website is older than me LOL) so it was new to me. There's so much rugged scuffed charm to phases 1 and 2 and all the different background characters that coloured the world. I'm not a modern Gorillaz hater at all I just wish they had something more like that these days, but it all feels more scripted, which is obviously fine cuz I liked how phase 5 and 7 did their story stuff but Song Machine is the only one that I feel like came close to capturing the vibe as the earlier eras.
