Das Abendmahl by CORY-RAGNAROK on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

My re contextualization of da Vinci´s Last Supper.

I think is one of the most complete digital works I´ve done... I mean: before this one, all of my works had started in a piece of paper, so making an all digital work was a new good experience.

Of course I´d like to make a photo session of this if I had the budget and the people... but I consider I managed a good result with the photos and elements I got... I spent some hours gathering nazi officers photos from the net and then playing with the placement to make them look coherent... like if it really had happened. Original idea was to show most representative nazi leaders but you know... is not the kind of photos you can find easily on the net, so finally I had to leave most of them out of this.

Tha same with the stuff on the table, I chose some representative things like the luger, the iron cross, the SS caps, the helmets, the Mein Kampf (the open book in front of Himmler wich is not actually a real mein kampf but stand for it) and luckily when looking for a gas mask I found that one wich fitted perfectly.

Talking about perfect fitting; I want tho thank :iconerikdevolve: for letting me use some of his "Eastern Front´45" photos to finish the work. Go and check them, they are great, and you´ll find out wich ones I used.

Since I couldn´t found a convincing background I used a shot of my garage, the same with the nazi flags and the floor. The rest was just some nights in front of my pc.

I think that´s all. Of course I´d love to read your comments... but remember to analyze first.

Hope you like it. Thanks for you time.

As in film making world, a movie remake only should be when it's previows reference is obsolate or when a director can offer a different vision of the topic.

Well, I don't think I'm offering something substantially different than what I posted three years ago when I firts showed this artwork here in DA, but here's the excuse: Last year my work was chosen to be part of a benefit exposition on a cultural center. I had to chose five of my best or at least most decent works and das abendmahl was one of them. So that's why I decided to edit a couple of details; fading silhouettes to make it look more natural, adding some textures and finally framing the scene. I don't actually know why I didn't upload the new one before. I guess I just... forgot it.

I know I've said a lot of times I'm not the kind of artist wich likes to retouch previows works but this was a special ocassion, besides the elements and essence of the artwork are the same.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your favs and remmarks.
