Curia Design by Cracoviia on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

For Curia's :iconcuria-dd: design contest: **April Contest: New Curia Costume! (Updated 4/2)**Earlier this week :iconamazonarrow: did this image which I posted: and got more questions than I could have ever imagined! I think I answered MOST of them, but there was one question, posed by :iconmyophiliac: which I did not: "If you HAD to redesign your costume...using the same theme...what would it look like?" And I didn't have a good answer. And then I started thinking...I haven't done a contest/challenge for a while and this might be a fun one for my watchers who are artists (and my non-watchers who are artists too!) SO without further ado, the contest this month is - redesign Curia's costume, using the same theme. Here are the rules/criteria for what I'll be looking for: 1) Originality. Curia is still under Diana's shadow, even though Curia has been Wonder Woman (and Diana has been God of War) for some time now. So she really DOES need something that is unique to her, something no other version of Wonder Woman has had before. 2) Based on the sa :)

This was perfect timing since I had a vague idea for a short piece with Curia in it, so this was a perfect opportunity to have a first try at drawing her. Never drawn her before despite drawing White Owl quite a few times and Amazon Arrow at least twice. Terrible behaviour, I shall report to Ms Miller for after-school punishment.

Curia's criteria were:
1) Originality. Curia is still under Diana's shadow, even though Curia has been Wonder Woman (and Diana has been God of War) for some time now. So she really DOES need something that is unique to her, something no other version of Wonder Woman has had before. 2) Based on the same theme. What this means, in my opinion, is that while it's original, someone can look at her and still instantly think 'that's Wonder Woman!' So incorporating some element(s) of the classic/modern Wonder Woman look is going to be necessary. 3. Practicality. She has to be able to fight in whatever she is wearing; she has to be able to run in it; she has to be able to fly in it. 4. Iconic. She is Wonder Woman, after all! 5. Quality and clarity of the image.

So I had a think, and tried to combine an existing Curia (Amazon Arrow's one was the main one I used for inspiration), with the practicality/warrior idea, and to try and add something distinctive. Now, I know Curia doesn't wear a cape, but I got the idea from pictures of classical Athenian soldiers, and in a lot of them they have cape- or robe-like flowing bits, so I thought 'can I make that look good and at least semi-practical?'. A cape needs something to hold it in place, and that's where the idea of the shoulder guard armour with the gold eagle symbol came from.

It's pretty different, but since the 'Amazon warrior' theme was mentioned I thought it might at least be interesting to see how she would look wearing a bit more armour, but still maintaining a general 'Wonder Woman' look and colour scheme. And, I hope, sexy-ness ;)

EDIT: Should have said, the background is a tweaked image from Injustice: Gods Among Us
