Witchblade - Masane redesign by Crimm-Art on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

First post in a loooong time. Here's the tumblr version.

I also started recording part-way through the finished line drawing, so I'll eventually edit that together and upload it and link to it

Youtube video is here, it's a little under 26 minutes and sped up 8x.

Sssssooo. One of my guilty pleasures is the Witchblade anime. I always feel a little weird admitting that I like it as much as I do (which is a lot) because anime women with balloon-tits with magic bracelets which transform them into battle-hungry, half-to-mostly-naked sadomasochistic killing machines goes against about 50 different things I stand for. But I like it! I don’t know. It’s a complicated relationship.

My knowledge of the Witchblade mythos begins and ends with the anime. And I’ve only seen a few miscellaneous images of the Witchblade comic. But I get it, girls nearly spilling out of their “armor” is just part of the whole Witchblade thing (at least, that’s the impression I’ve gotten). It’s very clear who the intended audience is. It is definitely not me.

Watching the anime though, it’s always bothered me a little that if it weren’t for the fact that the Witchblade/cloneblades generate sort of a second skin that is literally attached to the wearer, these women would be having wardrobe malfunctions every time they took a step. Just look at Masane.

So, to that end, for fun I decided to redesign Masane’s “armor”, trying to move away from “possessed lingerie model” and more toward some kind of organic power-suit kind of thing, using Masane’s pre-existing armor as a base. I mean, the Witchblade apparently gives its host crazy super-human abilities so “power armor” just makes a lot more sense than “demonic underwear” to me.
