Scooby-Doo Villains: Ranking The 13 Ghosts by CyberEman2099 on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

Well after reviewing both the show and the movie that concluded its story (albeit anticlimactically) and before we move on to the next entry of the Scooby-Doo cartoon rundown, I will be ranking the titular 13 Ghosts from The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo from the least awesome to the best in my opinion.....

So without further ado, we are...

Ranking The 13 Ghosts

13. Captain Ferguson Episode:

"Ship of Ghouls"
This ghoul is a very strange one seeing as the show nor the wiki confirm if he is actually one of the 13 Ghosts but just for simplicity sake, let's just say he is. Even if he is, Captain Ferguson is probably the most forgettable ghost in the lineup and the weakest due to the fact that he literally does nothing to make him standout, and even his design isn't all that impressive.

12. Marcella / The Demon Mist
Episode: "When You Witch Upon A Star"
I do think that Marcella has a very cool and ghastly look to her being that she has two different forms in two separate realms, a gaunt physical form and a ghostly mist form. But what brings her low is that she also doesn't do much in her episode and is mainly just barking orders at the the genderbent Three Stooge witches who do most of the work and are even duped into playing a part in her downfall. Cool concept, weak payoff.

11. Asmodeus Movie: "Scooby-Doo and the Curse of the 13th Ghost" Now I really do like the backstory regarding Asmodeus and how he was the corrupted ancestor of Vincent Van Ghoul, which does make this ghoul a bit of a personal one for Vincent and served as a good setup for what should've been a much cooler ghost. Design wise, Asmodeus looks cool with his demonic appearance and he does have moments of intimidation but then you get to the twist where the Asmodeus featured is a phony and the real Asmodeus is barely showcased outside of a vague ambiguous ending that is unclear of what he truly is, which ultimately makes him one of the weakest ghosts in the lineup and the even more weak twist played into why the film felt so anticlimactic as a finale that had so much potential after 35 years of waiting.

10. Rankor Episode: "Coast-to-Ghost"
Rankor looks kind of cool and a bit unique for a vampire design and does have some nifty abilities such as the ability to possess objects and create a storm cloud in one scene, but his capture is pretty lame as he willingly goes into the chest because the sun is rising. Also why would he want to be a part of SAPS so badly if he is one of the thirteen most powerful ghosts in the world? Is that resume not good enough for them?

9. Professor Phantazmo Episode: "The Ghouliest Show on Earth"
While I am not a big fan of his ghoulish form as he looks less like a ghost and more like a grotesque old man, I do like how Phantazmo is a more subtle and creepy ghost with how he is able to come off friendly and inviting to those he lures into his circus of terrors disguised through a magic calliope and him trying to manipulate and get Flim Flam on his side made him very cunning.

8. Reflector Spectre
Episode: "Reflections in a Ghoulish Eye"
He definitely has one of the more out there designs with the pointy fragmented look to his design and his mirror realm and abilities are a bit freaky, though his defeat is one of the more weaker defeats for a ghost, just being sucked up into a vac by Flim Flam without much of a fight.

7. Time Slime
Episode: "It's A Wonderful Scoob"
I like how he is like an evil Father Time and being a ghoul that was able to successfully cause the apocalypse in one reality, which led to Scooby having to go back and reset the events to prevent it. The one thing that's weird about him is his design looking more like an alien than a ghost.

6. Maldor The Malevolent
Episode: "Scoobra Kadoobra"
One of the first of the 13 Ghosts ever shown and one that is visually memorable for me. I like his design minus the second pair of horns behind him and is dark magic abilities and the fact that he's voiced by Optimus Prime himself Peter Cullen. Maldor is definitely a cool looking ghoul but what brings him barely out of the top 5 is his defeat of turning into a frog to eat Scooby who turned into a fly at the time and getting scooped up easily. I would liked it better if he turned into a dragon ala Maleficent and would have made for a more epic climax for him.

5. Queen Morbidia
Episode: "Me and My Shadow Demon"
I love how she has a small army of monsters and ghouls at her command as well as a giant pet spider by her side and she has a bit of a delightfully evil charm to her personality as well as a lovely and regal look to her. Though I do wish she did more herself rather than letting others like Griswald do the work for her, but I guess that's just the benefit of being a queen, you don't have to do much.

4. Demondo
Episode: "Scooby in Kwackyland"
His powers are some of the more creative and cool for me as an artist with how he has a magic ink pen that can trap people within comic panels and how it leads to cool possibilities with said comics. In addition, his design is simple yet has its own charm to its simplicity and he is one of the more cunning ghosts in the show and even tried to physically off Scooby at one point.

3. Zomba
Episode: "That's Monstertainment"
This freaky ghoul always stood out to me in the show for her creepy raspy voice and rather ugly and grotesque design as well as her ability to broadcast and trap viewers in old black and white horror films all so she could nab the Chest of Demons. She is definitely one of the more visually creepy ghosts in the show.

2. Zimbulu
Episode: "Horror-Scope Scoob"
Zimbulu probably has one of the cooler designs of the 13 Ghosts and has a very large and commanding presence towards Bogel and Weerd, as well as having a very cool twist towards the end with one standout character for me that I honestly did not see coming! For the original run of the show, he was definitely a cool one to end with, even though he suffered the same anticlimactic defeat as Reflector Spectre via Vacu-Spook.

1. Nekara
Episode: "A Spooky Little Ghoul Like You"
She may not have a very out there or otherwordly appearance, but Nekara definitely is one of the more imposing and deadly Ghosts of the lineup because of how personal she is with Vincent and her ambitions of marrying him and draining his powers after putting him under a love spell, being that she is an evil succubus. Nekara's scheme had some of the higher stakes in the show being that she was after the power of Vincent and with his powers, she could potentially be unstoppable. In addition to her villaionus plot, her design is radiant, her voice is sultry as a seductive succubus should be and her seductive yet conniving personality makes her a memorable standout villain in this short lived show and for me, my favorite of the 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo!

How would you rank The 13 Ghosts from worst to best?
