Rakkett Model R3 by D1scardingS4bot on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

The Model R3, sometimes known by the informal nickname of 'Linebacker', is a bolt-action varmint rifle manufactured by the Los Angeles-based Rakkett Arms Company, one of the many subsidiaries under the American Enterprises Group (AMEN). The Model R3 (Rakkett Repeating Rifle) is one of several offerings fielded by the Rakkett Arms Company, such as the RP2-8 pocket pistol and M5223 semi-automatic rifle.

The Rakkett R3 is a budget bolt-action rifle first fielded in 2103 by Rakkett Arms themselves, before being marketed and exported through the efforts of the parent company AMEN ever since 2142. Having had plenty of time to see use virtually all across the galaxy since its original inception, the Rakkett R3 enjoys a good reputation considering its budget nature. It is generally considered a good rifle that is adequately reliable and accurate for the price, and it continues to be offered for sale, especially the "L" variant, which is especially lightweight whilst not being fragile.

The Model R3 is a traditional bolt-action varmint rifle with polymer furniture and detachable box magazines. The gun fires 5.56×45mm ESSP cartridges and the magazines hold 10 rounds by default. While capable of handling most commercial and military ammunition alike, excessively high-pressure ammunition might cause problems. Expanded 15 or even 20-round magazines are known to exist, although these do disturb the gun's otherwise sleek profile. The polymer furniture is lightweight and mostly plain, with three basic slots for sling mounts and a 'handstop-style' bump towards the front of the handguard section. It has an 18.8-inch barrel that provides excellent velocities with most ammo, and standardized rails along the top provide a secure mounting surface for all types of optics. The guns were never sold with iron sights, and as such, the purchase of some sort of optic is necessary in most cases.

The exhibit showcased above is the "L" variant of the Model R3, featuring polymer furniture that is even more lightweight than the standard R3. It has been fitted with a rather expensive Burris-Steiner VPRS "Compact" telescopic sight and a much less expensive aftermarket rubberized cheekrest.
