Gung Ho Mazinger 7 by DaimosZ on DeviantArt (original) (raw)
In early 80's Seoul, a toy company and animation studio wanted to rip off Galaxy Express 999, Mazinger and Gundam but couldn't settle on one IP to steal from.
Then an executive from one of the two companies simply pointed out "Who said anything about settling on just one?"
And thus, Mazinger 7 was born. A product of South Korea's late 20th century import ban on Japanese culture and a staple of many bargain bin dvd releases of the old Joseph Lai commissioned dub of this film and several other pirated South Korean mecha movie ripoffs that had many staples of bad Hong Kong dubbed media doing the voices for these pieces of shit films.
While Mazinger 7 is among the myriad of South Korean bootleg mecha specifically ripping off Mazinger Z, it's ability to function as a space fairing locomotive that can shoot train carriages out its ass to protect all the alien kids traveling on board them at least makes this fusion of Mazinger, Golion and the RX-78-2 somewhat memorable if you're stoned out of your mind enough.
IDK who the fuck even owns the series anymore so I won't even bother putting in a ownership tag. I guess IFD Films but they only own the rights to the Omni Productions dub and not the actual character (if you can even enforce copyright a blatant act of IP piracy like this in the modern day.)
