Description

No stay in Kyoto should end without a visit to the Fushimi Inari Shrine. The area of the shrine is quite huge and very impressive. You will pass countless red torii on your way up the hill behind the main hall (honden). The way up is about 4km (plan 2h for it). The main hall of the shrine was built 1499AD after the shrine grounds were relocated to its today location in 816AD, it found was 711AD on Inariyama which is southwest.

I visited later the day and had the pleasure to see the structures in daylight and beautifully illuminated at a hot summer night.
