Yet Another Krystal Picture by DarkSnarkArtie89 on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

I feel like I've done nothing but draw pictures of Krystal ever since I've been sharing my artwork on the internet. Like my gallery is nothing but full of these pictures of a video game character from a game franchise that's fallen way by the wayside and has no real impact on gaming (well it did start in the 90s). Especially the ones like these, were I fatten her up and give her longer hair... There's just something puzzling about it because there's really no justification for it.

She isn't some "wafiu" or someone I constantly fantasize about. I do ask for pictures of her from time to time, but usually it's because the artist wants to experiment and/or I don't feel like they would want to draw one of my characters (especially now since there's really no original characters left). I don't really care if people don't like the character, and even further, I'm okay if people think the Starfox games are pretty terrible (to be fair, even Nintendo doesn't think they're worth the trouble of developing). There's no nostalgic value or precious memories associated with this character, and of course, do we really need more artwork of anthro foxes?

Ultimately, I just feel like I churn out Krystal pictures because there's nothing really else for me to do. Why bother creating new characters (who are essentially just a copy of one concept to begin with) when I can take what's an already existing character and just adjust it for my own purposes? Sure, it's rather unauthentic and somewhat of a destruction of the character (although in the actual games, her personality goes all over the place because Nintendo can't write a consistent story to save their lives), but nobody's really gonna care. There aren't hundreds of fans who want you to follow the Starfox canon to a T, mostly because nobody really plays the games anymore.

All in all, this is obviously not the first picture, and it certainly isn't the last one. I'll just keep churning out the pictures without much context and no explanation for why she is simply because I can; nothing more, nothing less.
