My friend's daughter was enjoying her first ever birthday cake this past weekend...

I love doing shots like this, I don't care but babies if they are happy they will take photos with you all day long - I think I hypnotize them with the flash, lol.

Once this little cutie realized she was free to eat this strange new colorful food, she didn't hold back (her mother is convinced eating is her favorite past time, lol). She had cake everywhere this was about mid way through the consumption, by the time it was all said and done I think she ended up with cake up her nose and near her eyes. She then started to cry and continued to do so until I got her all cleaned up.

I had to stop photographing her and pick her up (cake and frosting all over her and quickly ended up on me) to console her since her mom was taking care of the other guests getting them their cake.

I know the flash seems a bit harsh, you see the shadows and you think she's being washed out, she just really fair skinned. Look closer you can see her little hairs, poor girl will need to learn to tweeze. But I really don't mind the effect of the flash, spontaneity and learning and using what one has in their bag is all apart of experimenting.

The dramatic look of her caused by the flash helps intensify the feel of the photo, the emotion that was there when the photo was taken. Sure we as onlookers were laughing and giggling but she, she seemed eager and curious and carefree.

Sure it's a picture of a little girl eating cake, so what? She's HAVING her cake and eating it too...
