Against the wind Late Autumn/Early Winter, Age 758 of the New Age Glenwood, Glenmore As the days grew shorter the autumn winds got colder. The rain that fell was turning into a mixture of ice and snow. Together with the chilled winds the rain went through even the thickest of pelts. The whole herd seemed to be numbed, seeking shelters in their dens and the company of family and friends, not only due to the weather. Even the rut, a season where new life got created, where the stags tested their strengths in sparrs and battles to claim a doe of their liking, and where the does showed off to each other in their own subtle way - all that...seemed to have died down to almost nothing. What normally was a season of life, motion and emotion...now the forest seemed...almost dead...broken in two as the great oak itself. The pale doe avoided going near the place where the mighty oak had fallen. In her mind she heard them screaming still, the young and old, the living...and dead.
