Red Foxx's Li'l Redd Wrecker by DetroitDemigod on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

In the 1970's, Redd Foxx was transformed from a raunchy Las Vegas comedian to popular television star when his 1972-1977 show Sanford and Son became a big hit. As was his habit with celebrities, custom car king George Barris created a one-off vehicle to match Foxx's bigger-then-life personality.

The Li'l Redd Wrecker was a tow truck with a handbuilt metal body and hydraulic titling cab. The crushed velour interior and lack of side windows suggest Foxx would no be towing any cars in a rainstorm. The supercharged V-8 engine. Four unrestricted exhaust pipes exited the body just behind each front wheel.

The Wrecker's electric rear winch is operated by a push-button and its entirely chrome plated. A moon gas tank sits on either side of the body.

After doing its time on the show car circuit, the Li'l Redd Wrecker was restored by its current owners in 1997.

Engine: 750-horsepower, 355-cid Chevrolet V-8, supercharged.
Owners: Junior & Glenda Sammet
Trivia: The Wrecker rides on a Chevrolet Corvair front suspension and puts power to the rear wheels through a Corvette axle.
