Akira Toriyama, king of shonen manga and creator of Dragon Ball and Dr. Slump, has died. Never thought I’d be writing those words, and prayed that I wouldn't ever have to if not for a good while yet. Alas, when my friend texted me with news of it late into the previous night (March 7th), I couldn't process it. Hell, I still can't entirely. Sixty-eight years of age doesn't seem too old to a lot of folks, but it feels like Toriyama-sensei had so, SO MUCH MORE in the tank. He'd already been working on the stages of the new series Dragon Ball Daima in Japan and it has now become his swan song for better and for worse before it has even debuted. Hopefully the former outweighs the latter and I pray for the long health of his wife and children. His son Sasuke Toriyama is a mangaka (manga artist) himself and I have faith he'll do right by his old man. He collaborated with his dad working on that recent movie Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. Nothing like a fancy tribute here. I just feel that
