"Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in."
Lyrics from "Anthem" by Leonard Cohen
This large 3D mixed media assemblage is set inside a sturdy wooden box that measures 18.25" wide x 17.25" tall x 2.75" deep.
The box is collaged inside with layers of sheet music, snowflake printed tissue and a sprinkling of glitter. The large stag with the body of an antique marionette and a large rack of antlers from an antique decorative metal lamp base, mimics the Dresden doll while his furry arms (fox limbs from a recycled stole) hold two brass bells to summon in the evening. A small faceless faerie makes an offering of a starfish to the Dresden doll and spreads smaller ones throughout the sky. Above the Dresden doll on the right a small light bulb and a blue plastic doll eye protrudes from a Victorian brass door knob plate embellished with a brass sunflower and tiny sea shells. In the upper right corner flying dear inhale a whiff from two delicate porcelain pink roses. A porcelain doll head with an old tarnished chain coiled around her head sits atop a wooden spool in the lower left corner. Acorns and small pine cones are scattered at bottom and a small vintage saddled horse with a distinct glimmer in his gait prances through. The box is bordered by a vintage chain belt with carved wood inlay pieces, twine and feathers.
