Starfleet Academy cadet Monica Lopes was called up to active duty in the Federation war against the Romulans. She was assigned to a patrol craft on the bitterly contested world of Tau Ceti III.Sadly, after just two weeks on active duty Lopes' patrol craft was hit by Romulan ground fire and burst into flames as it made an emergency landing at the nearest Federation outpost. The young cadet and the six other crew members were trapped on the burning craft and perished in the flames.
