Lore: Forged in the heart of a nebula and cooled in the dark waters of the Astral Sea, the Ring of Celestial Depth is said to hold a fragment of the cosmos itself. Crafted by a conclave of star mages known as the Celestials, the ring was designed to navigate the vast mysteries of the firmament. The mages bound a singular star's core into the ring, granting its bearer the ability to glimpse beyond the veil of reality and into the infinite depths of the stars. The Celestials, however, underestimated the sheer magnitude of anchoring such cosmic energy, leading to the ring's unpredictable nature.

Properties of the Ring of Celestial Depth:

Starlit Guide: Once per day, the wearer can cast the guidance cantrip without using a spell slot. This version of guidance draws from cosmic wisdom, providing an additional +1 bonus to the roll.

Astral Step: The wearer may use the ring to cast misty step once per long rest, with the teleportation leaving a trail of shimmering stardust that dissipates after a few seconds.

Celestial Gaze: While wearing the ring, the bearer gains darkvision up to 60 feet. If they already have darkvision, the range is extended by an additional 30 feet, and they can see through magical darkness up to the distance of their darkvision.

Curse of the Ring of Celestial Depth:

Void's Whisper: Each time the ring's Astral Step is used, there is a 5% chance that the whispers of the void seep into the wearer's mind. The wearer must succeed on a DC 12 Wisdom saving throw or suffer disadvantage on Wisdom checks and saving throws for 1 hour.

Stellar Overload: The cosmic energy within the ring is not without risk. Upon using Celestial Gaze, the wearer must make a DC 10 Constitution saving throw or be blinded until the end of their next turn, overwhelmed by the sights of the cosmos.

Celestial Longing: The ring yearns to wander the stars. After using Starlit Guide, the wearer feels an urge to travel in a random direction determined by the DM for 1 hour, believing it to be a path of destiny. They can resist this compulsion with a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw.

Use in Campaign: The "Ring of Celestial Depth" could be a relic that a group of astronomers and seafarers seek to safely navigate through treacherous cosmic storms. Alternatively, it might be the target of a cult that wishes to harness its power to open a gateway to the stars, risking the fabric of space itself. While offering valuable abilities to the players, the ring's curses introduce elements of risk and consequence to its use.
