THOKK THE INVINCIBLE by Eggplantm on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

Something different from me.

This was done as a gift for my brother-in-law. The dude with the axe is Thokk, a half-orc straight out of D&D and he was my brother-in-law John Spodat's character for a long time. He was always the character I had to challenge if I wanted the fight to last any time at all.

I did this because John has had diabetes for a long time and over the last eight or so years it has cost him his left leg, most of his right foot, the use of his hands and most recently the use of his kidneys. John is in his early 40's.

I am not someone to get on a soapbox about a subject but I'm going to for this one. If you have this disease, it can ruin your life slowly and insidiously if you don't watch it. I hate dieting and watching what I eat but if I knew half of what has happened to John could happen to me, I would push away the sugary sodas and watch what I eat a lot closer.

John has not been the poster child for taking care of his affliction and it has continued to get worse and worse. To coin an old phrase, if I dug his grave every time I thought he was going to die, I would be in China. God love him, it's hard cause finding some temporary comfort in our favorite foods is so easy.

Okay, enough of that. This was done cause the last time he was checked into the hospital we again thought it would be the last time but he continues to surprise us. He is tough and a man with a weaker constitution would have passed long ago. That, or there is something to be said for the power of prayer. Nobody prays like my mother-in-law / his mom.

BTW the demon I've drawn him fighting is a classic D&D monster called a Glabrezu or a Type III for you old school players. I don't know why Gary Gygax organized his demons by number type back then but there you go.

Enjoy and God bless!
