Due to personal reasons, I'm postponing the next chapter of "Why G5 Failed" indefinitely. Thank you for your understanding.

Sorry for putting my "Why G5 Failed" series on hold but there's been an ongoing family matter to take care of. Don't worry, it's nothing serious; expect the next chapter sometime next week.

The (Unwanted) Shadow of G4 Disclaimer: This journal contains strong language. Reader discretion is advised. When discussing why Generation 5 of My Little Pony failed after three years, I often hear that the major reason was making G5 a sequel to the insanely popular preceding generation, Friendship Is Magic. I cannot help but agree with this explanation. However, if we interpret Hasbro's decision to tie G5 into G4 from a purely marketing point of view, the idea was justifiable. (On paper, at least.) Back in December 2017, when the first concept art for the proposed G5 leaked, FiM was already going through seasonal rot and the much anticipated - and delayed - G4 movie wasn't a critical darling, to say the least. Despite that, FiM was (and is) still Hasbro's golden goose. It justifiably earned its place in the pantheon of great cartoons, and its influence on pop culture is on the level of the original Star Trek series from the '60s. No wonder Hasbro wouldn't let G4 go even after it
