Campion's sireline has a history of producing exceptionally durable and sound horses who have strong hooves and go on to live well into their 30s.
Imperial is an extremely seasoned German stud, having produced hundreds of ranked horses during his 40+ years on this planet including Olympic medallists, World Cup winners and WEG champions. He is known as the "sire of broodmares", having 300+ model or elite mares among his descendants, most notably Imperia who produced 7 licensed stallions out of her 25 offspring.
Imperial's sire, Verstand, was just as prolific a producer and stamped his colour, versatility and longevity on his descendants.
During his jumping career, Imperial competed in puissance and currently holds the unbroken German record of 2.30 metres.
Meanwhile, Campion's thoroughbred dam comes from a racing background where she won 6 of her races, including the Grand Annual Challenge cup, Kilbegnet Novice Chase and Juvenille Hurdle. She has since been retired and turned into an eventer where she has found equal success at CCI3* level, winning at Blenheim Horse Trails, Saumur and Montelibretti.
History & Character
Campion was bred in Britain and relocated to Germany as a 2 year old where he was initially trained and shown in eventing, but was prone to over-jumping and wasting his energy during cross country phases, rarely finishing in the top half of entrants, so was retired early to try his hand at jumping instead. He ended up getting into the swing of returning home with consistent top-tens after his first series of outings, so pursued the career change further. Nowadays he finds himself back in the UK competing internationally at 130cm level, performing best in speed classes.
Under saddle, he's excitable and can tend to kick out, but is a manageable ride. He received his sireline's characteristic sturdy hooves but is still shod for grass surfaces.
