Cross Tattoos by Eruraina on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

My boyfriend made a request some time ago. He wanted me to design him a tattoo. But he was very vague in my opinion. He basically simply said that he wanted a black rose(or roses) and a cross. What style, how many roses, how the rose was with the cross... I asked him those questions, but he just said use your imagination. Gosh darn it, There's just too many options. After having drawn about 6 designs, he suggested the cross be a sword... but here are all but one of the designs I've made him so far.

1. This is the most recent design. I, personally, have a love for Celtic knots, and tribal designs. I decided to go for a slightly more realistic approach for the roses, and the sword/cross itself was constantly tweaked over the course of a few days till I came up with this. So far this is my bf's favorite, and I've actually had another friend say he wants to get it as a tattoo. Now, the tribal designs on the background is supposed to be a mix between flames and a thorny vine.

2. The second design I made(the first is not on here because it was just a pathetic warm up sketch). This was a line of roses going across a wooden cross. I kinda like the design, though I don't like how the cross turned out. I like the sash of roses, though.

3. This is the second favorite of my bf's. This is more of a tribal design with more clip art style roses. I really like this one, too.

4. The first word that came to mind for this tattoo was 'wicked'. And not in the good way. It wasn't until a few days after I completed it that I realized the cross could very well be made out of S's. Which is fine for me since my first name starts with an S, but not for him since his doesn't and people could very well take it for satan, which is a do not want. So the design was turned down. But I'm wondering if I can make one out of L's(his first name's first letter) or J's(Jesus)

5. I really like this one. Mostly because I have so much fun with celtic knots! I want to redo it with a bit more detail. But my bf wasn't too sure about that style. It's cool, though. I might just get it for myself, lol.

6. I don't like this one at all. I was going for a more gruesome look. Not sure if you can tell or not, but the rose vine is causing blood to drip down the cross. But I think I went overboard with the vines.

7. The first idea putting the sword as the cross. Not a big fan of it.

8. I rather like this one. The perspective was a lot of fun to draw, and it's one I've never attempted before. I also like how I ended the rose stems. He said it made the sword look like a dagger, but then again he was looking at it through a webcam.
